Kuala Lumpur the capital city of Malaysia, is a popular destination for budget travelers. It’s known for its delicious street food, affordable accommodation, and plenty of free activities. However, surviving in Kuala Lumpur on just $15 per day can be a bit of a challenge. But I managed to do it, in Mai 2022, and I want to share my experience and tips on how I survived in Kuala Lumpur on a tight budget.

Firstly, I found that the best way to save money on accommodation was to stay in a budget hostel. There are plenty of affordable hostels in Kuala Lumpur, with prices ranging from $5 to $10 per night. I opted for a dormitory style hostel that was clean, safe, and had friendly staff. By staying in a hostel, I was able to save money on accommodation and also meet other budget travelers.

Secondly, I made sure to take advantage of the city’s free activities. Kuala Lumpur has plenty of free things to do, such as visiting the famous Petronas Twin Towers, taking a walk through the city’s colonial district, or visiting the Batu Caves, which is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside of India.

Thirdly, I found that the best way to save money on food was to eat street food. Kuala Lumpur is famous for its street food and there are many hawker centers that offer delicious and affordable meals. I was able to find meals for as little as $1.50, which helped me stick to my budget.

Fourthly, I found that it’s better to avoid to use Taxis and use Grab instead, it’s cheaper and more convenient as you can track your driver and know the fare in advance, also you can use the GrabPay option to avoid carrying cash.

Lastly, I found that being smart with my spending, budgeting, and planning ahead was key to surviving in Kuala Lumpur on a tight budget. I made sure to research the prices of things before I went and I also made sure to plan my days and activities to make the most of my time and budget.

In conclusion, surviving in Kuala Lumpur on a tight budget is possible and it’s a great way to experience the city without breaking the bank. By staying in a budget hostel, taking advantage of the city’s free activities, eating street food, avoiding taxis and planning ahead, I was able to stick to my budget and make the most of my time in Kuala Lumpur.
